Our Reason for Action
Millions of poor people across Africa,
especially women and children do not have access to qualitative healthcare
services. Where these services are available, many are still too poor
to afford them. Malaria, HIV/AIDs, water and sanitation related diseases
and other preventable diseases are still a major cause of death and
a huge challenge to improving average lifespan. With high rates of child
and maternal mortality in Africa, there are fears that the continent
is unlikely to meet its health Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) except
stakeholders fast track actions to improve healthcare in the region.
Poor health reinforces poverty and undermines any development agenda.
Therefore, a key area of Global Relief work involves providing healthcare
assistance through free medical and dental outreaches, including advocacy
and other interventions aimed at tackling malaria, water & sanitation
related diseases, nutrition related diseases, HIV/AIDS, and other preventable
diseases. Global Relief solicits medical supplies and equipment to carry
out free medical outreaches around Africa.
