Water &
Sanitation
Our Reason for Action
An estimated one billion people globally do not have access to a safe
source of drinking water. In rural areas of Africa, many have to trek
long distances to get unsafe water for domestic purposes. Many are forced
to drink from dirty ponds; streams often polluted by both animal and
human fecal waste, and polluted open wells. In many villages and urban
slums, sanitation is also often very poor leading to the contamination
of water and food sources. The result is often high incidences of water
related diseases like diarrhea, dysentery, typhoid, worms’ infection
and others. Global Relief’s work also involves helping communities
tackle water and sanitation challenges. We help fight water poverty
by providing safe drinking water and improved sanitation through community-driven
efforts. We often carry out safe water research and advocacy as well
as water treatment education and enlightenment.
